Academic Mapping brings hands-on science to kids through inquiry-based learning. Our approach integrates engineering, mathematics, and scientific inquiry to challenge young minds and foster excellence.

About Our Learning Hub

How the magic happens

Each school year, Mobile STEM Labs empowers K-12th grade students in STEM learning and science skill- building, and STEM literacy. Mobile STEM Labs strengthens academic skills of youth through fun and engaging STEM learning experiences. The curriculum is aligned with Next Generation Science Standards, which deepens and sustains student interest in science. Students are introduced to concepts in Life Science, Earth and Space Science, Physical Science, Technology (including robotics and coding) and Engineering during a full program cycle. This broad offering motivates students toward a STEM-education and careers while supporting student learning on standardized state exams. During each Lopic focus (Life Science, Earth and Space Science, Physical Science, Technology, and Engineering) students receive a pre and post assessment to gauge student learning, 60- minute weekly learning labs, hands-on instruction, and instruction from instructions who are culturally diverse men and women with STEM backgrounds. Programming is available to schools in an in-person setting and is also available online, both offerings provide STEM supplies for students.

During the 2022-2023 school year Mobile STEM Labs provided rigorous learning opportunities and experiences, to enhance and improve the educational outcomes attending under-resourced and underserved schools.

Mobile STEM Labs works collaboratively with school administrators and teachers during the school year to ensure there is an active dialogue regarding the representation and cultural responsiveness of the program.

Administrators and teachers meet with MSL leadership on a weekly to discuss

programming, including the cultural

responsiveness of the content and instructors. Additionally, Mobile STEM Labs provides a year-end survey to administrators and teachers to provide feedback.

Program Objectives

Mobile STEM Labs provides K-12 students with authentic, standards-based learning laboratories, which integrates engineering design, mathematics and scientific inquiry. Mobile STEM Labs, is eliminating disparities in access to STEM education through:

STEM COMMUNITIES

Building STEM Learning Communities: Collaboratively working with all stakeholders to create a school-wide culture of inquiry-based STEM learning that is aligned with Next Generation Science Standards.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Providing High-Quality Professional Development Models: Addressing the instructional shifts and practices associated with Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the Computer Science Standards for California Public Schools.

SUPPORTING TEACHERS

Supporting Teachers: Equipping classrooms with the necessary materials, equipment, and support personnel to increase STEM Literacy. Teacher supports includes in-class coaching, demonstration teaching and modeling best STEM instructional practices.

Partnership

Partnering With Schools and STEM Industry Leaders: Creating collaborative networks between primary and secondary schools, colleges, universities and industry to identify, assist and direct students into STEM related career pathways.

Needs & Facts

The Need

The Facts

The Facts

Mobile STEM Labs (MSL) provides rigorous learning opportunities and experiences, to enhance and improve the educational outcomes.

There must be STEM coursework that is applicable to the 21st century and enhance student experiences, teachers need to be supported in the classroom to be able to apply STEM learning concepts and students must experience real world application of STEM curriculum.

The Facts

The Facts

The Facts

Studies have found that a high-quality STEM education is the foundation for creating pathways toward college. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows employment in STEM occupations has grown 79% in the past three decade and that STEM jobs are projected to grow an additional 11% from 2020 to 2030.

It is important to analyze how to motivate, encourage and empower more young people to develop an interest in STEM. Research indicates that early exposure can help increase a love of STEM and interest in STEM education and careers. In order to best address educational inequities and economic gaps we must look at the educational system and learning experiences that are currently in place and evaluate the impact.
